Glow-in-the-dark sneakers from New Balance
April 2, 2009
Have you ever heard of glow-in-the-dark sneakers, well there is such a thing now. Think of how much fun you can have with people when they can compliment you on your shoes. A collaboration between New Balance, Mita and Frat creative collective, the sneakers have a print skull on the tongue and a rope on the back and are coated with phosphate paint. I really think it is an awesome design.

Sorry, an Error

Oops, sorry, that last post title should be:

–>A team of industrial design students at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette put together a railway that wouldn’t need stations to pick up passengers. The system features drive less pods that are mounted to an elevated rail on an arm, which can lower the cabs down to pick up or drop off passengers anywhere along the route.

The idea actually came from roller coasters, don’t worry about your pod speeding off through a loop though. The team hopes that a system such as their “versatile monorail” would cut down on the need for buses, which with many costs, can be too costly to run efficiently. I think that’s a cool idea, I’ve heard of it in cartoons but there was a problem, but you can’t always believe what happens in cartoons will really happen. It’s a really good idea, but taking away buses also takes away a thousand jobs and in an economic crisis we need a lot of jobs! Don’t you think!

BMW, the living room with wheels
March 24, 2009
The BMW Snug, designed by David Raffai, was created and is what he considers a “social space” with wheels. On the inside this cool car has staggered seating, which gives the car’s interior a more open space. Much like the open feeling you would have in a living room. On the outside of the Snug there are areas on the side and rear that act as seats.

Along the sides of the vehicle it is designed to have changeable graphics, which is used to customize it and takes advantage of greener technologies, such as hydrogen fuel cells. As you can see this is a really interesting car and it seems innovative. People are really going to want to by something like this but with the recession, not right now. I think its amazing, it brings something that can be so far away from home (a car) and brings it together with a living room.

Cajun Crawler walks all over the Segway
March 17, 2009
If you’ve heard of the segway you would know it’s so cool to watch. A person stands on this device and it moves (using wheels). Well the students from the University of Louisiana designed a new version, would it be a winner.
The cajun crawler uses multiple legs instead of wheels. It’s graceful, and much faster than you would imagine. It’s based on Dutch designer, Theo Jansen’s beach creatures. This dynamic stabilized machine looks so interesting. If it were available for purchase, I would choose the cajun crawler because the way it moves is so fascinating. It’s like your walking on your own feet and it’s incredibly stable.
