Youth Empowerment Workshop

September 26, 2008

A two day workshop was held at Sua Community Junior Secondary School, all of the Natavillage youth were welcome to join as well as anyone from the community who also wanted to attend. Some of the topics they discussed included: business awarness and opportunities, youth grants, why is HIV/AIDS prevailing in Botswana. Love, relationships, dating, (which to me should be all put together in one topic) marriage and family, youth and politics, and crime commited by youngsters. The coordinators and speakers did a good job on informing them on those topics. Overall the workshop was extremely successful and the turn out of the primary attenders (the young adults) was amazing.

The incredibly large Hadron Collider has been online for a short amount of time, and it already has some malfunctions. Due to electrical fault that struck a cooling system for the ginormous-magnets, that kept the beam on track, they shut the system down so it can be fixed. It will be back online soon and there will be new information coming soon.

This article basically is about service systems, such as public safety, healthcare, education, a judicial system, care for the elderly and children, sanitation, etc. RED, is a unit of the Design Council, the UK’s officail design agency, basically their goal is to “challenge accepted thinking, about the important social problems which are climaxing and the way Public Service meet by bringing in the innovations, and visions to mind.”"To me this sounds alot like critical thinking toward social problems.” We need to change the people’s behaviors on some of these topics, basically how to make the changing topics, behavior more attractive by creating a certain apeal and desire. Compelling to solutions that pull people into doing something they really want to do, rather than pushing them into doing something they don’t want to do.
